If you have travelled to a foreign country especially the ones where people do not speak English you would know that how difficult it can become to communicate with people in order to ask them about directions etc. Up until now there hasn’t been a perfect solution to this problem of making communication between the speakers of two different languages easier. On smartphones there are several apps that convert spoken words into other languages but they are awfully slow and inaccurate.
To solve this problem a new device called SIGMO has been created. The SIGMO is a small piece of gadget that enables users to communicate with people who speak other languages. How this device works is pretty simple, users have to select their native language as well as the language they want their words to be translated into and afterwards they just have to press the button and start speaking. The device will automatically translate the spoken words into chosen language and play it for the other listener.
The SIGMO translation device supports up to 25 languages and features two different modes. It features two buttons each of which is assigned to a language. So when you press the first button it will listen to your words and translate it into the foreign language and then when you are done you or the second person can press the other button and start speaking in the foreign language. SIGMO will then translate those words into your native language and read the converted audio to you. Its that simple.
One of the main plus points of the SIGMO translation device is that it is very portable and light weight. As shown in the introductory photos the device is so small that it can be wore by users in their wrists like a watch or wore like a locket. The small size makes it great for business trips, vacations and more.
So exactly does this device works you might be wondering right now. Well here it is. SIGMO needs to be connected with a smartphones powered by either iOS or Android. SIGMO connects with the smartphone using Bluetooth and uses online services such a Google Translate to make translations for the users, which means it requires a working internet connection. To configure SIGMO and change languages on it you have to download a free app especially designed for SIGMO. Apart from changing foreign and native languages the SIGMO app also allows users to change ambient noise levels and volume.
SIGMO supports a wide range of popular languages that are listed below. More languages will be added to this list in the coming updates
English (US), English (UK), English (Australia), English (Canada), Spanish (Spain), Spanish (United States), Spanish (Mexico), French (France), French (Canada), Finish, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese (China), Mandarin and Cantonese(Taiwan / Hong Kong), Catalan, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Portuguese (Portugal), Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Russian, Arabic, Indonesian, Hebrew, Czech, Turkish, African, Malay, Croatian, Thai, Greek, Bulgarian, Turkish, Slovak, Hungarian, Ukranian, Hindi.
In the future the team behind SIGMO is going to add some new features that will make this device even more useful. One of those new features is offline support for translation. With this feature users will be able to download vocabularies for different languages off the internet and be able to communicate with people even without the availability of the internet.
Another feature that will be added to this gadget in the future is called Smart Translating Technology. This will SIGMO to intelligently translate the meaning of phrases instead of just translating words. If done successfully this will be the true translating device that we have been waiting for.
Currently the company behind SIGMO is seeking funding on the crowd funding website Indiegogo. You can get a SIGMO translation device for yourself by contributing $50 or more to the project here.
