Google at its 2013 event for developers has revealed the new Google conversational search feature for the desktop. The voice based search feature that competes with Apple’s Siri is already available on mobile platforms including Android and iOS and now it will be making is way to the desktop through the Chrome browser.
The new Google conversational search is not same as the voice search already available on desktop devices. On the new search users will be able to ask questions using their voice.
Users will be able to launch the new voice based search service by saying the phrase “OK Google” without pressing any button – which is similar to how Google Glass gets activated. The working of the new Google voice search is much like iPhone’s Siri and Google Now a users will be able to ask questions about what they could do on their trip such as “Show me things to do in Santa Cruz” and get answers quickly. The voice which answers your queries in this new Google voice search for desktop is similar to the one available on Google Now and the process is very similar to what is already available on Android and iOS devices.
One thing that makes the new Google voice search better than the usual type based search is that in the verbal one you don’t have to think what to type in order to search something, you can simply ask a question and if Google understands it then it will simply give you the relevant results. This makes the process faster and that’s what Google is aiming for.
While many people won’t be comfortable with talking to their computers just as they are when using services like Siri or Google Now on their mobile device others will definitely find it useful and that makes this feature a great addition to already awesome Google Search experience.
