If you thought innovation within the smartphone world had stopped then you are up for a big surprise. A new accessory for smartphone has been created called Pressy. It adds an extra physical button the any Android smartphone. All a user has to do is place Pressy in the 3.5mm headphone jack of his or her device and this accessory will act like a normal button.
It comes with a special app that can be used to configure this small gadget. When it is inserted into the headphone jack users can change the way it reacts when it is pressed single or multiple times. The Pressy button is capable of supporting multiple functions at once. Users just have to select the function for each action and that’s pretty much it. Once configured this extra button works like a charm.
Pressy button can be configured to take photos, turn on flashlight, record a phone call, start voice recording, used as an emergency button in order to send current location to someone, toggle for Bluetooth or WiFi and more.
Although it is just a single button it is capable of performing multiple tasks thanks to the differential clicking. For example users can set one action for single click and another for double click.
Some examples of differential clicking of Pressy include
• One short Click to toggle your flashlight
• One long Click to toggle your phone in and out of silent mode
• Double-Click to snap a photo
These are the default settings that work out of the box. However once users become familiar with how Pressy works they can choose from a wide variety of tasks that are listed below.
Users can set as many actions as they want by setting them up using the Pressy app. Apart from the actions mentioned above users can also create their own actions, such as once action can be – triple click with short first click and longer second and third clicks. The complication Pressy actions might take a while to get hold off but once you are familiar with them it would work like a charm.
Once it ships the free app for Android will also be released in the Play Store using which Pressy users will be able to set actions for the button.
So what happens when you have to use the headphone jack? Its simple, just unplug the Pressy button and start using the jack as usual. Also if your headphone has a play/pause button then you can also use that just like Pressy and perform functions as you did with the button, which makes it even more convenient. Also every Pressy comes with a special keychain that can hold the button when it is not in use.
The creators of Pressy – the almighty Android button are currently seeking crowd funding through the popular website Kickstarter. Right now they have already achieved there initial goal of $40,000 as people have already contributed over $228,000 with 45 days still remaining. Pressy is available for just $15 or more based on the pledging option. You can learn more about it or get one for yourself by going on its product page here.
