Sony has introduced its new line up of smartphones at the CES 2013 event. The Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones Sony has introduced seem impressive as far as looks and specs are concerned but are they worthy competitors to the market leaders of today, which includes Apple’s iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S3? Let’s find out.
Hardware
The Xperia Z smartphone Sony has introduced features a good design, which we are sure will be liked by most users as it has that classic Sony feel to it. In fact the design is so much better that this device might help Sony in gaining high volumes of sales and become a dominant smartphone manufacturer once again.
Same is true with Xperia ZL which features a design similar to its Xperia Z cousin. It is strange that Sony decided to release two seperate devices which are not very much different from each other apart when it comes to specs and design from ZL featuring a smaller outer shell and having the front camer at the bottom side. As far as over all design is concerned it looks like Sony is going to keep up the slightly modified shape of Xperia 2o12 smartphones in 2013 as well – which is not as bad as it sounds.
Sony has added a unique feature to both phones especially Xperia Z, which is water resistance. This feature is unheard-of in the world of high end smartphones and will surely make it more durable than its competitors. The 1080p display will also make a huge impact in the market and will help new smartphone in competing with HTC Butterfly and others.
When compared with iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 the Xperia smartphone is a device which although falls short of iPhone 5′s gorgeousness and Galaxy S3′s uniqueness it still is a device that is a worthy competitor to these and other top phones and should be considered by the buyers when purchasing a new smartphone.
Software and features
The new pair of smartphones just like the previous generation are powered by Google’s Android OS. Although they run Android Jelly Bean Sony has implemented its official Android skin on it. The software on this device is same as the Galaxy S3 (with different skin and slightly different features) but overall its the same thing that powers hundreds of devices.
Apart from being water resistant and having a 1080p display on top of a gorgeous design and powerful specs Xperia Z and Xperia ZL also have a feature called VideoHDR. With this feature both devices can take photos from three different images shot at different exposures and then take the best detailed parts of each of the three and create and nice photo. These new Sony devices can do it for video as well.
Specifications
Just like any other gadget specifications is the most important aspect of smartphones, which should be considered when purchasing a new device. The devices Sony has introduced feature good specifications. This is the main reason why the new flagship Sony Xperia devices are not only able to compete with the likes of Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 but are able to beat them in many aspects. In the comparison table below we have compared the specifications of the newly announced Xperia with the market leaders. Have a look at the table featuring:
