Apple released the iOS 7 update last month. The new software update brings a lot of big changes to the operating system that are not limited to a new look. Up until now iOS 7 has been a smooth update and despite the early controversies we saw when it was released users have began to get used to it and have even started to like it. One of the problems iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users are facing after updating is that their iOS device is experiencing battery drainage, meaning they are experiencing lower battery life than they did in iOS 6.
This this post we are going to share some tips that will help you in increasing the battery life of your iOS 7 device significantly. Let’s get started
Turn off parallax effect
Among other features iOS 7 also brings many eye candy features that are only there to improve the visual user experience. If you don’t want the extra glow and would like to have a better battery life in iOS 7 instead then turn off the parallax effect of the home screen. This 3D effect eats a lot of battery life and turning it off could greatly improve your iOS 7 powered iPhone’s battery. Here’s how you can do it.
- Open Settings > General and then go to the Accessibility option.
- Now Look for the ‘Reduce Motion’ option.
- Turn it off. That’s it.
Turn background app refresh off
iOS 7 adds a new feature called the ‘Background App Refresh’ that enables apps to refresh their content when it is available using WiFi or cellular internet. This option allows apps to use location services and the internet to download stuff without you even knowing. This not only increases the data usage of your iPhone or iPad but it also eats a lot of your precious power that you can be using for other purposes. To turn this feature off follow the steps below.
- Open Settings and then go to accessibility options.
- There you will find an option that says ‘Background App Refresh’. Tap on it.
From the next screen you can turn it off. You also have a choice to turn it off on selective apps while allowing others to use this feature. This can be useful if you want certain apps such as news apps to refresh their data automatically. Its totally up to your personal preferences.
We recommend turning this feature off for all apps to save maximum battery life.
Turn auto updates of apps off
iOS 7 has a really useful feature that makes the iPhone or iPad capable of updating apps to latest version automatically. Unlike iOS 6 in which users had to open App Store and refresh each app manually iOS 7 manages the app updates by itself. This feature has one downside though. It can act on its own meaning your iPhone could be downloading app updates and wasting battery life when you need it the most.
Best way to update apps especially those which are large in size is to connect it to power and then update. So we recommend that you turn the automatic app updates off. You can do so by following the steps below.
- Open Settings
- Go to iTunes & App Store Settings
- Turn ‘Apps’ and ‘Updates’ options off.
While you are at it also turn the ‘Use Cellular date’ off. This will save your limited carrier data.
Use Control Center to your advantage
One of our most favorite features of iOS 7 is the Control Center. This little feature makes iOS user’s life much more easier by making different tasks more convenient to do. Some of the things Control Center allows users to do is turning WiFi and Bluetooth on and off as well as increase or decrease brightness.
Now if we pay attention these three options in our Control Center can do wonders for our device’s battery life. Here’s how, turning WiFi, Bluetooth and keeping the brightness low in a smartphone or tablet greatly increases its running time on a single charge. By giving instant access to these settings in iOS 7 Apple has made iOS 7 much more power efficient. Now you can instantly reduce the brightness of the device or turn off WiFi or Bluetooth without leaving the app when you are not using these. Since changing these settings is super easy you should use them to your advantage.
