It has become a trend among top Android manufacturers to release the ‘mini’ versions of their flagship smartphones in order to target the segment of the market that doesn’t spend much on their smartphone or don’t like the large displays of those popular devices. Following this trend HTC has also announced the mini version of its most popular smartphone i.e HTC One.
Today HTC took the stage to reveal what everyone knew was coming. It announced the HTC One mini smartphone, which is basically the smaller version of the widely popular and loved HTC One the company released a few months ago. The HTC One mini unlike the ‘mini’ devices released by other companies isn’t a strip down version of the larger device and HTC has not made many compromises and the device despite having a few downgrades from the HTC One is an Android smartphone you would want to get.
As far as design is concerned the HTC One mini looks pretty much like its big brother however overall it feels less wider thanks to its 4.3-inch display, which makes it easier to hold in hand. The software in the HTC One mini is also same as the larger model and it runs Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense running on top.
There are a few specifications that have been downgraded to keep the price low in HTC One mini. HTC One mini features a 1.4GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor instead of 1.7GHz quad-core Krait 300, 1GB RAM instead of 2GB and 16GB built-in memory instead of 32/64GB storage options. HTC One mini lacks the IR blaster feature found on HTC One. NFC and optical image stabilization is also missing but other than that both devices are same. Also it is important to note here that none of the downgrades affect the performance of the cheaper HTC One mini.
HTC One mini features a 720p Super LCD display as opposed to HTC One’s 1080p however that difference doesn’t seem much when the device is held in hand due to its smaller size. HTC One mini has the same camera as HTC One, which is 4 Megapixel with autofocus and LED flash. The device is capable of recording 1080p video. It features a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with 342ppi. It has hardware dimension of 132 x 63.2 x 9.3 mm and weighs 122g. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and 1800mAh battery.
