In this post we are going to tell you about ways to boost signals of WiFi in homes for free. Everyone has WiFi in their homes and most internet users use it all the time. One of the biggest problem with home WiFi is that it does not cover the whole area of the house and there are many places within the house where there are no or very low signals. There are many easy ways to solve this problem and get adequate WiFi signals in all corners of your house. So lets get started and learn ways to boost signals of WiFi in homes.
Put your router in the center
Many people put their WiFi router in the corner of their house, which is a big mistake. A router throws WiFi signals in all four directions so if you place it in the corner section of the house half of your precious signals will go to your neighbor’s house and you won’t get them in far end of your own. When deciding a spot for your router try to choose a place that it at the center of your house. Placing it in the center will ensure that all of your house will get proper coverage.
Use a DIY signal booster
There’s a part of your house where you spend most of your time but is far from the room you have placed your router. If you can’t bring your router to this room try using a signal booster. You can create a signal booster by cutting a beer or coke can from one side and opening it as seen in the image above. This will prevent signals from going into the direction you have placed it and throw them with more power towards the spot it is pointed to.
Add a WiFi Repeater
Perhaps the most effective way to boost signals of WiFi in homes is using a WiFi Repeater. You can use any old router or purchase a new one and configure it to be used as a WiFi Repeater. What it does is that it receives the signals coming from your first router and throws it even further beyond the reach of your first router. This way you can create a chain and boost the signals in order to cover a large area.
Change the channels
Most older WiFi routers operate at 2.4Ghz wave length while the newer ones have 5GHz band. When you use multiple devices at home on single network your speed gets low because of too much interference on a single network. To solve this problem and boost signals of WiFi in homes you can divide the channels. To make sure your channels don’t match with your neighbor’s channels you can co-ordinate with them to ensure the maximum speeds.
Update the firmware
Just like any other device updating the firmware to the latest version could do wonders for you. If you are experiencing lower overall speeds and bad coverage around the house then you should download the latest firmware for your router from manufacturer’s official website. It would not only improve speed but also boost signals of WiFi.
